SARAJEVO, November 14 (FENA) - Head of the Council of Europe's Human Rights Department, Mikhail Lobov, today at a conference on "Regional Collaboration on Migration and Asylum: Key Challenges and Good Practices", said that they want legal standards adopted in the CoE member countries in order to achieve migration management that complies with human rights standards.

He stressed that the Council of Europe has drawn up legal standards on migration to be discussed at the conference today, as well as best practices in the region.

“The Council of Europe has a whole array of standards that also apply to governance in the context of migration. The basic instrument is the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights,” he said.

Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina Khaldoun Sinno said the Conference brings together regional stakeholders that deal with migration and asylum.

“We are here to convey the message that the EU has been active in helping and managing challenges since 2015, and even earlier,” Sinno said, adding that they have invested 380 million euros that year to manage the challenges of migration in the region.

Sinno said that everyone must work together because cooperation between countries and international organizations is crucial, but also stressed that better cooperation between institutions within BiH is very much needed.
