SARAJEVO, November 14 (FENA) - Transparency International in BiH (TI BiH) and Center for Civic Initiatives (CCI) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with 15 public health institutions to prevent and combat health-care corruption in BiH.
The project is funded by the European Union and marks the beginning of cooperation with the common goal of preventing and combating corruption in BiH health care.
TI BiH representative Emsad Dizdarević believes that solutions arising from this Memorandum will serve as an example to other health institutions in BiH in which better solutions are needed to prevent corruption.
CCI project coordinator Slaven Divičić emphasizes that the Memorandum’s plan is to analyze and improve internal acts of 15 healthcare institutions. TI BiH and CCI will provide an analysis of the legislation on prevention of corruption in healthcare institutions.
"We will provide examples of good practice and propose improvements of internal acts, we will advocate the improvement of laws and by-laws at the level of entities and cantons. I would particularly emphasize the area of financial management, internal controls and internal audits within health institutions, which is an obligation under the entity laws and also a condition of BiH on its way to the European Union and an obligation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement," Divičić said.
He added that one of the goals is transparent recruitment through public tenders and criteria. The Memorandum also envisages education of health workers in the field of corruption prevention.
