Zvizdić: We’ll secure two facilities for accommodation of migrants in FBiH

SARAJEVO, November 14 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić told reporters in Sarajevo today that a program has been prepared with measures he believes would be very effective against illegal migration.

He noted that such a program has previously been proposed to the BiH Presidency, implying the engagement of unarmed members of the Armed Forces of BiH in order to prevent illegal crossings through which migrants come.

“Therefore, it would not be the case with the official border crossings, but across the Drina River, forests and so on. The second proposal was the engagement of MoI members from entity and cantonal levels, who would be under the command of the Border Police and would patrol exclusively on the BiH border without entering the territory of any entity. The third proposal was to approve, by the Presidency, an agreement with FRONTEX, which would have significant assistance from the members of FRONTEX. But, unfortunately, all these proposals were rejected, and they were rejected by those who speak the most about the migrant crisis and its danger,” said Zvizdić.

He added that in the meantime, talks have been conducted with the Government of the Federation of BiH, although, as he said, he did not agree with this principle that there should be no equal territorial distribution of migrants throughout BiH.

“But winter is coming, and this situation is forcing us to accept something that I personally disagree with. We spoke with the FBiH Government; we got two facilities, one in the Tuzla Canton area and one in the Sarajevo Canton. It is the barracks in Blažuj and the barracks in the territory of the Tuzla Canton. We expect to take over the property from those that have assigned them to us. As soon as we come into possession, we will equip these facilities and they will be prepared from the humanitarian and every other aspect for the migrants to be able to stay in them during the winter,” said Zvizdić.

He noted that the focus must still remain on protecting the eastern border of BiH in order to control the illegal influx of migrants into BiH.

“We will resubmit an integrated document to the BiH Presidency and we expect that it will get support from the BiH Presidency, which would significantly help us with the complete control of illegal migration.

We remain committed to three principles, to remain humane to these people in a capacity where possible, to comply with domestic migration laws, asylum and international standards. Europe needs to help us not only financially, but to prevent the arrival of migrants from the European Union to the Balkans. I hope that Europe will introduce more efficient procedures here than it has been the case until now,” concluded Zvizdić.
