BIHAĆ, November 15 (FENA) - Several hundred citizens of Bihać today gathered in protest to express their dissatisfaction with the situation with migrants and refugees in this city outside the Bira temporary reception center.

They demand the closure of this temporary center, the relocation of migrants and refugees outside the urban metropolitan area and maximum protection of the city's residents.

“We repeat that we do not protest against these people, but simply ask our own state for help and protection.

Everyone is talking about the rights of illegal migrants, and no one is talking about us and our rights. Our children are no longer safe even in their own backyards and that is why we are now explicitly seeking an adequate response from the state and the European Union. Residents of the settlements around Bira cannot endure this situation any longer,” said Bihać citizen Jasmin Halilagić.

Concerns were particularly expressed about the safety and health situation in the city itself.

“Unfortunately, we must try to protect ourselves in this way. None of those in charge has been doing anything for almost two years and our patience is gone. People living near Bira are almost in daily danger. We often face burglaries, alienation of our personal property, assaults and harassment.

All that is left now is to let them get into our houses. Once again we are looking for help and protection in a dignified way, and I do not know how much longer we will be able to tolerate all this,” said one of the gathered citizens, Fikret Bečić.

Citizens say the protest rally was organized spontaneously through social networks and private communication. It went on without any incidents, in a calm tone, with increased police presence.
