Osmanović: BiH is committed to building modern education system

PARIS, November 17 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to active cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), BiH Minister of Civil Affairs and President of National Commission for UNESCO of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adil Osmanović said yestrday at the 40th UNESCO General Conference in Paris.

In his address at the event, he also emphasized BiH's commitment to achieving the set of goals, as well as the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, noting that very significant reforms are underway in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"We are committed to building a modern education system oriented towards the needs of the labor market and based on lifelong learning," Osmanović said.

He said that UNESCO is making a major contribution to the advancement of the education sector, and with the support of the UNESCO Office in Sarajevo, activities are underway to develop a data collection framework for education in BiH, in line with Goal 4 (quality education) from the Sustainable Development Goals.

Osmanović said that in the area of science BiH strongly supports initiatives and projects that contribute to reaching global answers and challenges through collaborative work and open access to science, therefore greater funding is needed for science activities.

He stressed that the aim is to achieve smart growth through implementation of innovative and productive ideas into products and services that can lead to sustainable economic growth while preserving natural capital and reducing inequality in society.

Minister Osmanović also talked about other priorities of cooperation with UNESCO, and especially emphasized prevention of violence on sports grounds and the prevention of doping in sports, as well as the fight against illegal trade in cultural goods and regional cooperation in this area.

He recalled that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member of the World Heritage Committee and wants to contribute to the conservation, protection and promotion of the world's cultural and natural heritage, the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs announced.
