SARAJEVO, November 20 (FENA) - The MPs of the Social Democratic Party of BiH in the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliament today, ahead of the session of the House, demanded an amendment to the Criminal Code of the Federation of BiH, which would treat attacks on journalists.
An MP in the FBiH Parliament’s HoR (SDP BiH) Senadin Begić said at the press conference that the amendment entails the introduction of a category in the Criminal Code, “preventing journalists from exercising their professional duties”.
He explained that the amendment provides for two penalties for the offense, and both would entail a prison sentence.
“Prison sentence of three months to three years, for minor violation of the law, and for a more severe violation, from six months to five years,” said Begić.
He recalled that numerous international organizations have been asking for a legal framework that would tackle attacks against journalists, especially in countries such as BiH.
“We are witnessing frequent attacks on journalists and freedom of expression, and the public only wakes up when such incidents happen,” Begić said.
