SARAJEVO, November 28 (FENA) - Italian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered panelists of various profiles at a conference in Sarajevo on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the opening of the first Consulate General of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they discuss relations between the two countries, the Balkans and the European Union.

Italian Ambassador to BiH Nicola Minasi said that Italy is a longtime friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they intend to discuss "our past and future" at a two-day meeting in Sarajevo.

"Italy wants to be part of the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it was part of its past. Italy is encouraging BiH to become a state that can be part of Euro-Atlantic integration," the Italian Ambassador told FENA before the conference.

He recalls that Italy is an important partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the political level, but it is also an important trading partner of BiH. That is why one can work well to improve the political and economic situation in BiH.

President of the Committee on External and EU Affairs of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Marta Grande said that relations fostered with BiH will remain important. She said that the cooperation between the BiH and Italian parliaments will continue.

She noted that they had meetings with representatives of the BiH Parliament, the European delegation and civil societies, during which it was stressed that "special emphasis should be put on determining the preparatory stages that will lead BiH to better development."

One of the panelists at the conference, sociologist and political analyst Srdjan Puhalo, said that no one disputes that BiH should and must have European perspective, but it is crucial 'whether we believe the EU's promises, the verbal expositions of domestic politicians or our everyday life where we keep talking about Europe, but that path is both slow and quite complicated '.

Conference "Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina: The Balkans and the EU through the centuries - 155 years since the opening of the first Consulate General of Italy in Sarajevo" will include four panel discussions, topics from history, politics, culture and cooperation, with panelists from Italy and BiH and representatives of the EU and partner institutions. A book on bilateral relations was presented at the opening ceremony.
