Turkish Film Week in BiH taking place from December 11 - 15

SARAJEVO, December 11 (FENA) - The Turkish Film Week in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the ninth in a row, is taking place from December 11 to December 15. It opened this evening at the Meeting Point Cinema in Sarajevo with a screening of the film "Summer in Ankara - A Letter of Farewell".

The whole event was announced this afternoon at a press conference held at the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo by the lead actor in the film, Gurkan Uygun, as well as another Turkish actor Erdem Erguney and Turkish Ambassador to BiH Haldun Koc and Director of the Yunus Emre Institute in Sarajevo Mehmet Akif Yaman.

The protagonist of the film, who opens the Gurkan Uygun event, said on this occasion in Sarajevo that the most wonderful thing for an actor is getting to know different cultures.

“There are multiple cultures in Bosnia and Herzegovina and we want to convey our feelings and thoughts," he said.

The Yunus Emre Institute, Uygun reminds, operates in 50 countries around the world and works to bring different cultures together and has been involved in a number of projects.

Turkish Ambassador to BiH Haldun Koc welcomed the artists on the occasion of the Turkish Film Week in BiH and emphasized that cinema, as culture and art integrally, is a common language everywhere in the world and a communication factor among peoples of different linguistic areas.

He also emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a land rich in ethnicities, multiculturalism, "and we wish to contribute to this cultural wealth by hosting an event like this”.  

The Turkish Film Week, Ambassador Koc added, is being organized in several countries of the world and thus promoting the Republic of Turkey and mutual values.

Director of the Yunus Emre Institute in Sarajevo, Mehmet Akif Yaman, reminded of this year's celebration of the tenth anniversary of the institution, which, according to him, has done a lot for the studies of the Turkish language in BiH, for example in the project "My Choice is Turkish", which is being implemented in schools, with 10,000 students.

Yaman stresses that the Institute also works extensively in the field of culture and art throughout the year, and it has made it possible for the audience to see selected films in 23 communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina during this year's Turkish Film Week.

The 9th Turkish Film Week is taking place in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the Directorate-General for Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and organized by the Yunus Emre Institute.

From December 11 to 15, some of the most remarkable pieces in Turkish cinematography will be screened in 23 cities in BiH. The Sarajevo audience will have the opportunity to see them at the Meeting Point cinema free of charge.

In addition to the film "Summer in Ankara - A Farewell Letter", other feature films of modern Turkish cinema will be screened - "The Magician", "Grandfathers’ Men", "Don't Tell Me Stories", "Ayla".

For the youngsters, two animated films will be screened "A Company of Little Saviors" and "Kids from the Neighborhood".
