BANJA LUKA, January 6 (FENA) - Former BiH Presidency member Mladen Ivanić believes it is particularly important that a change has taken place in Croatia at the presidential election, with the victory of Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP) candidate Zoran Milanović over incumbent President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović (HDZ).
"It turns out that even when you have power, it does not by definition mean that you are in the lead in elections," Ivanić told for FENA.
He said that Milanović's victory is a kind of surprise.
"But the most important thing is that there are changes, that there are no 'eternal' ones, there are not those that are guaranteed to rule permanently, and I think that is the most significant message of elections in Croatia," he said.
He does not think there will be a major turnaround when it comes to the political views of the country.
"I do not think there will be a major turnaround here, especially not when it comes to relations with BiH, Serbia and the entire region," said Ivanić, who was also BiH foreign minister.
He thinks that the biggest changes will happen in Croatia.
“I think that the biggest changes will be within Croatia, on the domestic policy, and in the external one I do not expect any special turn. But the most important message is that it is possible for things to change, and in that sense it turns out that in Croatia the degree of criticism towards the authorities is much higher than in the countries of the region,” Ivanić told for FENA.
