Mahmutbegović: We strongly condemn provocations in RS

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 7 (FENA) - Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Melika Mahmutbegović strongly condemned the provocations in Srebrenica and other returnee places in the Republika Srpska on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

“The scenes we saw yesterday and last night in Srebrenica, Potočari, Bratunac, Višegrad and other places, at the very least, do not contribute to the atmosphere of tolerance, peace and love propagated by Christian teaching and are certainly understood by the majority of our fellow citizens who are celebrating their most important holiday in peace today,” the Cabinet of the RS Vice-President announced.

On the other hand, the celebration with inappropriate iconography and songs dedicated to fascist movements, often in settlements with majority returnees, aims at something that does not contribute to stability and well-being of our society as a whole.

“I therefore call on the Republika Srpska President Željka Cvijanović and the Republika Srpska Government to establish all relevant facts and take a stand on unscrupulous examples of turmoil in the returnee population, and the entity police forces to work to restore law and order in accordance with the interests of all BiH citizens and the principles of constitutiveness,” it is said in a statement.

It is noted that Bosniak returnees to Podrinje have "been enduring threats and intimidation for a long time and it is time to end the campaign of fear among the returnee population." Especially since similar problems are often shared by Croatian and Bosniak returnees in other parts of the BiH entity of RS.

“We expect the international community and High Representative Valentin Inzko to ensure protection of the provisions of Annex 7 of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and to guarantee the returnees safety in their homes, from which they were expelled 25 years ago,” it is said in a statement from the Cabinet of FBiH Vice President Melika Mahmutbegović.
