SARAJEVO, January 7 (FENA) - The Croat caucus in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly held a session this morning and raised the issue of vital national interest, as they consider Mirza Čelik's appointment as chairman of that assembly  disputable. The decision will be forwarded to further proceedings, Danijela Kristić said at a press conference, who assumed the position of the Speaker of the Assembly from Elmedin Konaković.

It was also said at the press conference that Mirza Čelik tried to enter the chairman's office this morning. Criminal charges against the Vice-President of the Assembly Smiljana Viteškić have also been announced.

Elmedin Konaković, as well as members of the Collegium Vibor Handžić and Igor Stojanović addressed the journalists on this occasion.

Konaković stated that no one disputes the formation of a new parliamentary majority in the Sarajevo Canton, but the way Mirza Čelik has been appointed as the new Speaker is disputable, therefore he (Konaković) does not want to hand over the Assembly seal until the official procedures and regulations are respected.

He claims that, on the other hand, there is a demonstration of arrogance and political power dictated, in his opinion, by the Clinical Center in Sarajevo, or by director Sebija Izetbegović.

Similar assertions about the “illegal action” of the new majority were made by Vibor Handžić and Igor Stojanović, arguing that no one disputes the formation of that majority. They called on party representatives of the new majority to attend tomorrow's Cantonal Assembly session and return their members to parliamentary action so that the Assembly would adopt important acts such as the Cantonal Interim Financing Decision.

“Nobody avoids a change in government, but it is not right to exercise political force if you have 18 signatures,” said Handžić.

Shortly after the end of the press conference, the newly-appointed Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton, Mirza Čelik, addressed the press, saying that any trace of the Assembly seal has been lost on December 27, and that everything that had been sealed since then would be the subject of criminal proceedings.

Asked about the announced session of the Assembly tomorrow, he replied: "If we get a seal, we will hold it otherwise, no. We are afraid of abuse".

Čelik denies attempting to enter the chairman's office this morning and claims that he requested to assume the post but it was not allowed to him by the individuals of the previous management.
