SARAJEVO, January 7 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović congratulated newly elected President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović.
"I congratulate you on your victory in the presidential election and wish you much success in performing the function of President of the Republic of Croatia," said Izetbegović.
Good relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia are of great importance for both countries and the entire region. I hope that during your term of office, we will be able to improve these relations.
Unfortunately, relations between our two countries have deteriorated in the past. You could have noticed that during the campaign politics resulted in unnecessary tensions between official Zagreb and Sarajevo.
Such evaluations encourage, show political maturity and give hope that improving relations is possible.
I appreciate that an honest and open dialogue between the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia on all outstanding issues, based on the principles of mutual respect, respect for international law, could significantly improve the relations between the two countries. That dialogue has been lacking in the past, despite efforts by the BiH to reach it. I am convinced that you have a partner in the BiH institutions for this dialogue.
At the same time, I would like to emphasize that we are grateful to Croatia for supporting BiH's European and NATO path, and this mutual strategic interest, despite numerous challenges, has remained a strong link between the two countries.
“I hope that Croatia's EU Presidency in the next six months will contribute to intensifying Euro integration process and restoring a credible perspective of EU enlargement to the Balkans, as our common goal,” said Izetbegović in his congratulations, SDA announced.
