SARAJEVO, January 8 (FENA) - Since the outbreak of the crisis in the Middle East region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been in constant contact with embassies and has been constantly collecting available information on BiH nationals who are located in potentially threatened areas, told FENA Chief of the Public Relations Office in the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nebojša Regoje, explaining that, according to information from the BiH Embassy in Amman, which is a non-resident embassy in charge for Iraq as well, more than 300 BiH citizens currently reside in Iraq.

“These are mostly BiH citizens who, as part of the activities of international organizations, reside in Iraq or are engaged in various jobs working for security companies,” Regoje added.

He noted that so far, about 30 BiH citizens currently residing in Iraq, contacted the BiH Embassy in Amman to inquire about possible consular assistance if needed, but no one requested any assistance in evacuating from that country.

“Considering that one of the likely routes is Kuwait in the event of an immediate evacuation from Iraq, the BiH Embassy in Amman is in contact with the BiH Embassy in Kuwait, which coordinates the assistance plans for BiH citizens when entering this country, since visa is required,” he said.

Also,Regoje confirmed that the BiH Embassy in Amman is also in contact with the embassies of Serbia and Croatia in Baghdad, which selflessly offered their assistance to BiH nationals if needed.

Talking about the situation in Iran, he emphasized that according to the estimate of the BiH Embassy in Tehran, there are about 15 to 20 BiH nationals currently in Iran.

“The BiH Embassy in Tehran has intensified activities to monitor the development of the situation in the country and strengthened contacts with BiH nationals and other BiH embassies in the region,” he underlined.

The embassy, he said, has not been addressed by any of the BiH citizens so far with a request for any assistance or complaint in terms of difficulty or limitation of the day-to-day activities related to freedom of movement, transport, health services or the functioning of the school system.

Regoje also referred to the situation in Australia, where fires have been raging for months, noting that there are no reported situations in which BiH citizens would be directly endangered, but that the BiH Embassy is closely following the situation.

“All the capacities of the embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH are made available to our citizens, and not only official but also private telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of BiH diplomatic and consular representatives (DKP),” Regoje said.

However, he noted that the BiH diplomatic missions and consular posts are not authorized to register BiH nationals staying abroad, and BiH citizens are not obliged to register with the BiH diplomatic and consular representatives.

“Therefore, the DKP network can only estimate the number of BiH nationals in foreign countries based on contacts of diplomats with BiH citizens and / or to the extent of their requests for DKP services and other diplomatic and consular activities,” concluded Regoje.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a warning for traveling to Iraq and Iran, which is published on the official website.
