SARAJEVO, January 13 (FENA) - Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Janez Kopač will attend a thematic session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina tomorrow, which will be dedicated to meeting the obligations of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the Energy Community Treaty, told FENA the Chairman of the Committee on Energy, Mining and Industry of the House of Representatives Safer Demirović, stating that MPs will discuss many issues in the energy sector, among which the focus will be on the construction of Block 7 of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant and air pollution.

“The focus will also be on the issue of state aid in relation to the issuance of a guarantee by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the construction of Block 7, as well as the regulations on electricity, gas, environment, and especially that related to renewable energy sources,” Demirović added ahead of tomorrow's session.

Representatives of departmental ministries, as well as civil society organizations working to improve conditions in the energy sector at the FBiH level, are expected to attend the session.

The House of Representatives last year passed a decision to grant guarantees to Elektroprivreda BiH for a loan from a Chinese bank for the construction project of Block 7 of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant.

The energy community, as well as the EU, has earlier urged lawmakers not to approve the issued guarantee because they say it may contain elements of unlawful state aid.

After the formal legal requirements have been met, the Electric Power Company of Bosnia and Herzegovina ‘Elektroprivreda BiH’, after selecting the contractor, began preparatory work towards the end of 2019 for the construction of the replacement Block 7 of the Tuzla Power Plant.

The value of the construction of the entire project is estimated at 750 million euros and should be completed by the end of 2024.

The Electric Power Company of Bosnia and Herzegovina claims that all technical and technological parameters have been met with Block 7 and that its construction is in compliance with the most stringent requirements of the European directives and domestic legislation.
