SARAJEVO, January 17 (FENA) - Mirza Čelik, elected by the new parliamentary majority as the Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, urged the unblocking of processes in the Sarajevo Canton (SC) at a press conference today and presented an agreement proposing that the Deputy Speaker of the SC from the Serb caucus Smiljana Viteškić chairs the sessions of the SC Assembly.

“The reason for such decision is that we believe that Vibor Handžić cannot be speaker because he, like the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, is from 'Others',” said Čelik.

He adds that Viteškić is also the oldest member of the Assembly, that is in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, which stipulates that the oldest member may chair the Assembly.

The agreement states that it is signed in order to create the assumptions of normalization of the work of the SC Assembly, and thus to make decisions that would ensure continuous financing of the beneficiaries of the SC budget, that is, providing services to the beneficiaries of the Health Insurance Institute and the Employment Service of the SC, and to make the necessary decisions on the election of the Speaker.

“All members should sign this today, which we will propose at the session of the SC Assembly at 1 pm. If that does not happen, we can leave the deadline for Monday for signing of the Agreement and unblock processes in the Sarajevo Canton,” Čelik said.
