Implementation of SDG Accelerator for SMEs in BiH begins

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 20 (FENA) - Signing of an agreement between UNDP BiH and Deloitte BiH has opened the application process for participation in the exclusive UNDP Innovation Program in BiH - SDG Accelerator for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in BiH. The call for companies remains open until February 5, 2020.

SDG Accelerator for SMEs is a UNDP project originally developed in Denmark, implemented with the involvement of local and international experts from the consulting company Deloitte.

SDG Accelerator for SMEs aims to accelerate business solutions based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and involves working with five companies that will receive support, guidance and a comprehensive methodology for developing new products, services or business models through engagement of top domestic and foreign professionals based on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Companies will also be assisted in communicating and training employees to integrate sustainable development through internal campaigns and activities.

“SMEs are the engine of the economy. UNDP's experience in working with SMEs in Denmark is our inspiration and guide for the SDG Accelerator in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We invite all interested SMEs to apply and be part of the Accelerator. We are pleased to offer the same quality of service to the private sector in BiH through collaboration with Deloitte,” said Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov, UNDP Deputy Resident Coordinator in BiH.

Companies that are part of the SDG Accelerator will develop at least one sustainable development solution through a six-month "innovation journey", whether it is a product, service or business model.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to such a significant project and we look forward to working with BiH companies that recognize that sustainable development goals truly drive innovation and growth of companies, strengthen their values, and attract new talents, clients and investors. It is estimated that no serious company will be able to operate in the global market from 2030 unless it operates on the principles of sustainable development because it will not be competitive. That is why it is very important for companies to seize this opportunity and recognize that having business goals that are aligned with the goals of sustainable development is not only possible but also profitable,” said Sead Bahtanović, Director of Deloitte Sarajevo.

Costs of participating in the SDG Accelerator will be covered by the project SDGs Roll-out Support and Private Sector Engagement in BiH implemented by UNDP in BiH with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.

Applications are open until February 5, 2020 and all interested companies can apply by completing the application form.
