BANJA LUKA, January 21 (FENA) - Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Milan Petković, has submitted to the parliamentary procedure two draft laws whose adoption will abolish the privilege of the so-called "white bread" to the elected and appointed officials in this BiH entity.

“The ‘white bread’ is a privilege voted in the parliament for the right of top officials to receive salaries for a whole year after their mandate ends.

These are amendments to the law on labor relations in state bodies and the status of officials in local self-government units.

On the basis of this right, the officials, after the expiration of their term in office, were entitled to a salary and paid taxes and contributions for six months after their term ends.

After the last term convocation of the parliament, 37 deputies in the Council of Peoples and Ministers in the RS government used this privilege, which cost about KM 600,000 in budgetary funds, or even more when taxes and contributions are added.

"It's a completely unnecessary privilege, and that money could be spent in a much more useful way," Petković said at a news conference.

The right to "white bread" privilege has been abolished at the state level.
