Bevanda discusses economic cooperation with Ambassadors of Slovenia and Qatar

SARAJEVO, January 21 (FENA) – Deputy Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers and BiH Minister of Finances and Treasure Vjekoslav Bevanda today held separate meetings with Ambassador of Slovenia to BiH Zorica Bukinac and Qatar Sultan bin Ali Al-Khater.

Minister Bevanda said in an interview with Slovenian Ambassador Zorica Bukinac that relations between the two countries are good in all areas, and that the BiH authorities are trying to create an environment for foreign investment by transposing EU standards.

Ambassador Bukinac stressed that BiH will always be a priority for her country, and they will continue to help EU enlargement by joining the Western Balkan countries and for BiH to be granted candidate status as soon as possible.

The interlocutors agreed that reforms are much needed in all segments of society in order to improve working conditions in business community in BiH and to attract foreign investment.   

Creating better conditions for attracting foreign investment was also the topic of the meeting with the Ambassador of Qatar, who emphasized his interest in investing in the banking sector.

Minister Bevanda emphasized during the meeting with Ambassador Al-Khater that there is a constitutional jurisdiction for certain areas of business, but also a legal framework for certain business facilities, such as the Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal with respect to Taxes on Income between BiH and Qatar, which creates the possibility of better cooperation.

The officials emphasized that the competences in the economy are mainly at the entity level and that cooperation should be established through the chambers of commerce among businessmen, but also through business forums held in both countries.

The Ambassadors congratulated Minister Bevanda on his re-appointment as Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH, and were interested in the current political situation and future activities, which are mainly based on adoption of budget for this year and fulfillment of commitments from the BiH Reform Program, the BiH Ministry of Finance and Treasury stated.
