MOSTAR, January 24 (FENA) - The United States Ambassador Eric Nelson attended today attended the presentation of the environmental campaign 'Make your country even more beautiful', at the American Corner in Mostar, after which he visited citizens who have been protesting in front of the municipal waste landfill in Uborak since last year.
Nelson has joined this eco-campaign, urging Bosnian citizens to increase their awareness about their environment.
“As I travel around Bosnia and Herzegovina, I am always amazed by the incredible beauty of your country. You have some of the oldest forests and most beautiful rivers in all of Europe. But, too often the rivers are clogged with plastic bags and other garbage, and the mountains are hidden behind the smog,” said the Ambassador today in a video message on the occasion of the start of the campaign posted on the U.S. Embassy's Facebook page.
The natural beauties of Bosnia and Herzegovina could disappear if its citizens, young and old, do not take care of it, he added.
The US Embassy, in collaboration with the organization “Ruke”, has launched an eco-challenge 'Make your country even more beautiful', and has called on individuals, institutions, schools and NGOs to clean up and improve neglected public surfaces or to contribute in some other way during this year to the efficient use of energy and better air quality.
“On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of peace in BiH, our goal is to recruit 25,000 volunteers across the country who will jointly express their concern and love for the natural beauties of this country.
This eco-campaign is an opportunity for young people to show that they care and are ready to be the next generation of leaders,” said the US ambassador.
