Zvizdić and Čović meet with Picula: Commitment to BiH's EU membership

BRUSSELS / SARAJEVO, January 27 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHPA) Denis Zvizdić and Speaker of the House of Peoples of BiH PA Dragan Čović held a meeting with European Parliament Rapporteur for Recommendations on the Western Balkans and MEP Tonino Picula.

They discussed the current political situation, European BiH, as well as the priorities and opportunities BiH can use during Croatia’s EU Presidency.

Picula said Bosnia and Herzegovina's European perspective is certain, but the reforms that the country needs to implement are binding. He said that work on the implementation of European projects and enlargement policies must be implemented in parallel.

Zvizdić said that candidate status is a common interest, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina is the key to stability for the entire region, and stressed that in order to preserve peace, long-term stability and economic prosperity of BiH, as well as the entire region, obtaining candidate status is necessary.                                                                    
Čović stressed that there is no alternative to EU membership for Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing the importance of reform processes to foster development opportunities and socio-economic development for the benefit of BiH citizens. Commenting on the positive development of the establishment of the BiH Council of Ministers, he also stressed the need to amend the BiH Election Law, which would enable the protection of the equality of constituent peoples and holding of elections in Mostar. He said political cooperation must be based on mutual respect for representatives of the constituent peoples and on a common aspiration for EU accession.

Picula, Zvizdić and Čović have expressed full commitment to BiH's EU membership, PR Office of the BiH PA announced.
