BIHAĆ, January 28 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) Mustafa Ružnić at today's meetings with representatives of the international humanitarian group "Doctors without Borders", and the International Rescue Committee (IRC), stressed the importance of their presence in this canton and the joint preparations for a new migrant wave expected in the spring.

“Any assistance is welcome, and the presence of international organizations has proved necessary in this situation with migrants and refugees. Today, we have begun to prepare and agree on joint cooperation, in order to be properly prepared for the new and expected migrant wave. I reiterated that so far there has been no coordination of actions at the state level, and I hope that will change quickly. In that case, all those who work on the ground would be more efficient,” said Prime Minister Ružnić.

The Doctors without Borders humanitarian group has been present in this canton almost since the beginning of the migration process and is currently operating a mobile ambulance in the parking lot of the Velika Kladuša Health Center.

“Our primary goal is to care for migrants who do not have accommodation in temporary reception centers. We have estimated that the most difficult situation in this area is in Velika Kladuša, because of the large number of people in the abandoned facilities of the industrial zone and that is why we are currently there. However, we reiterated that we are fully available if our assistance is needed in any other city or municipality in the canton,” said the Project Coordinator of this organization Francois Giddey.

Engagement in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina has also been confirmed by the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

“We want to help in this situation to the best possible extent, especially the migrants. Our priority is to support the most vulnerable categories, specifically unaccompanied minors and families in need. Also, we will provide psycho-social support, provide clothing, but also guidance in how to behave while they are staying here,” stressed the Regional Executive Director of IRC Europe, Stefan Lehmeier.

The cantonal government reiterated that an urgent meeting was requested with the representatives of all relevant state institutions, in order to establish coordination on the ground and to carry out all preparatory activities for the arrival of a new number of migrants and refugees.
