FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHPA) Dragan Čović and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Denis Zvizdić participated today at the Summit of the Presidents of the European Parliament with the Speakers of the Western Balkan Parliaments in Brussels.

European Union (EU) officials, led by European Parliament President David Sassoli, reiterated the position that the European Parliament wants to be part of the process and decision-making, stressing that BiH's European path is an important part of the EU's future, the BiH Parliamentary Assembly announced.

Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković welcomed on behalf of the Republic of Croatia the EU presiding country, the BiH PA delegation, and emphasized that enlargement is one of the priorities of the Croatian presidency.

Addressing the attendees, Speaker Zvizdić said that candidate status for BiH is a matter of stability, security and economic prosperity, and that European integrations are the least common ingredient in EU-Bosnia and Herzegovina cooperation.

“European integrations bring prosperity and prosperity, stability and security. Because of all that has been done, Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to get candidate status, especially because of the fact that BiH is the key to the stability of the Western Balkans,” Zvizdić said.

Speaking at the Summit, Speaker of the BiH PA House of Peoples Dragan Čović emphasized that candidate status for BiH would relax the internal problems that BiH is facing, noting that BiH expected candidate status in 2018 by submitting a membership application.

At the end of the Summit, the Joint Declaration of the Western Balkans Parliament Speakers was adopted, together with the President of the European Parliament and the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia, which is holding the rotating Council Presidency, reaffirming the undoubted EU perspective of the Western Balkan countries.
