Field: Brexit does not mean less Great Britain in BiH

SARAJEVO, January 30 (FENA) - The United Kingdom is leaving the European Union. This means implementation of the decision made three years ago in the referendum. Brexit was a democratic choice. We respect the choice of people in BiH who have opted for the EU, British Ambassador to BiH Matthew Field said in an interview with the daily newspaper ‘Oslobođenje’ and the ‘O Channel’.

“We will always be a solid friend of BiH. We have already doubled our support for Bosnia and Herzegovina. I would say that we are even more present and engaged. We are active in all spheres and I think in that sense Brexit does not mean less but more of the United Kingdom,” Field said.

Great Britain has been a significant factor in BiH's relations with the EU in recent years.

There were initiatives that jumpstarted the reform processes. Ambassador Field states that British support should always be practical.

“I always ask people in BiH to tell me what we need to do and I try to act. What does this mean specifically - Improving public services. This is a priority for both BiH citizens and for us, including education, public transport and other public services, improving the business environment, which is very important for investment.

We need to improve the business climate. Together we can reduce red tape. A lot of people have told me that strengthening the rule of law is a priority. We can help with that,” said Ambassador Field
