Zvizdić and Davidse discuss new World Bank strategy for BiH

SARAJEVO, January 30 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, Denis Zvizdić, met today with World Bank Executive Director for BiH Koen Davidse to discuss the preparation of a new strategy for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the priorities for cooperation with the World Bank.

They stressed that this document defines the most important areas for the World Bank program.

Speaker Zvizdić expressed his appreciation for all the projects financed and implemented by the World Bank in the previous period, and especially for the programs of road infrastructure improvement, strengthening and development of small and medium-sized enterprises, energy efficiency projects in public buildings, as well as projects in the field of health sector restructuring. He said that in the preparation of the new partnership agreement, it is necessary to provide further support to infrastructure projects, private enterprise, environmental protection, as well as to continue reforms in all segments in order to strengthen the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Zvizdić emphasized that it would be important for BiH to continue working on other projects in the thermal power sector, with a particular focus on the Kakanj Thermal Power Plant, given the positive results of the desulphurization project at the Ugljevik Thermal Power Plant, as well as to analyze the possibility of participation in the project implementation of the construction of gas pipeline southwards to the border of BiH and Croatia.

Speaker Zvizdić particularly emphasized the importance of cooperation at the expert and technical level, in order to shorten and accelerate the procedures for issuing building permits and for the registration of companies on the basis of good practices, which would significantly improve the parameters for assessing process of doing business and thus improve BiH's position on the Doing Business List.

Speaker Zvizdić and Director Koen also discussed the upcoming annual International Monetary Fund/World Bank Constituency Meeting, to be held in Sarajevo in June this year. It is estimated that the meeting will be a good opportunity for further establishment of BiH within the cooperation with international financial institutions, announced the PR Office of the House of Representatives of the BiH PA.
