SARAJEVO, January 30 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac and European Commission's Director-General for Energy Ditte Juul-Joergensen agreed today at a meeting in Brussels that the EU should make further efforts and suggest Croatia include BiH in consultation regarding the construction of the nuclear waste disposal in Trgovska Gora.
Košarac said that all levels of government in BiH agree that Croatia's intention to build a disputed waste disposal in the immediate vicinity of the border with BiH is unacceptable, and that the Ministry it manages is a contact for resolving this bilateral issue with a neighboring country, which will be a priority in his work.
During the meeting, it was pointed out that Croatia did not consult with BiH when adopting strategic documents on the disposal of nuclear waste on the site of Trgovska Gora, and that the EU took the position that Croatia must inform the European Commission of its final decision, and that the EU would follow its activities in this context.
Košarac expressed his hope that this bilateral issue with Croatia would be resolved diplomatically and in the spirit of good neighborly relations. In this regard, he stressed that a similar problem had previously been noted between Italy and Slovenia, but that it had been resolved with the assistance of the EU, which he assessed as good practice to be applied in the case of BiH and Croatia, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations stated.
