SARAJEVO, February 7 (FENA) – 'Milton Glaser' exhibition, dedicated to one of America's most celebrated graphic designers, opened on Thursday at the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A collection of seventy original posters by this great artist has been presented.

At the opening of the exhibition it was pointed out that Glaser's creative engagement strongly influenced the image of modern America as we know it today, and his I Love NY logo has defined branding methodology and became the most used model for creating a positive image of a city.

It is emphasized that Glaser defended the ethical dimension of the profession through his critical texts, essays and interviews, questioning the role of designers in shaping the consciousness of the modern man, insisting on the responsibilities that designers have - both to clients and to consumers.

"Therefore, given the civilizational importance, not only students, but all of us, have something to learn from Milton Glaser’s creative life and professional views," said Asim Dželilović, associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and initiator of the Museum in Exile.

Bojan Hadžihalilović, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, also believes that Glaser is one of the greatest living designers, illustrators and thinkers in the world.

The core of this exhibition is a promotional poster by Glaser, created (with a group of world-renowned artists) for the promotion of the XIV Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984.

Glaser then sent a message saying: "The fact that my work can serve to bring people together and unite, regardless of their ethnicity or background, makes me feel that I have achieved everything I dreamed of as a child."

Another occasion was in 2014 when he and Mirko Ilić made a poster to mark the 100th anniversary of the assassination in Sarajevo, 1914 - 'Sarajevo 100', organized by the Association of Applied Artists and Designers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

BiH Art Gallery and the Museum in Exile are the organizers of the exhibition and it will be open until February 29.
