SARAJEVO, February 9 (FENA) - The House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH Parliament is due to vote a new law on the default interest rate law on February 13.

If the voting occurs at the said session, it will enter into force on the eighth day from the day of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e., the current Law on the Default Interest Rate and the Law on the Default Interest Rate on Outstanding Debt will cease to be valid.

"This means that interest will be calculated on existing unpaid liabilities at the rate of 12 percent annually until the day the new law enters into force, while the interest calculation after the period of entry into force of this law until the payment of the obligation will be done at the rate of 10 percent annually, as determined by the new law," confirmed to FENA the FBiH Minister of Finance Jelka Milićević.

Bearing in mind that one of the reasons for the adoption of this law is to strengthen the liquidity of economic entities, the Minister believes that the conditions for its adoption by emergency procedure have been fulfilled.

"In addition to reducing the default interest rate from 12 to 10 annually, it is stipulated that the amount of default interest charged cannot exceed the principal debt. On this basis, companies that have a problem with liquidity will find it easier to settle their principal debt and the payment of the matured liabilities," said Milićević.

Also, the forthcoming session of the House of Peoples should also have on its agenda the proposed Law on Crafts and Related Activities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, draft laws on electronic signature, support for families with children, representativeness of trade unions and employers' associations, as well as amendments to the Law on Business Entities.

It has also been proposed to appoint the presidents, deputies and members of the permanent working bodies of the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament.
