World Muslim League delegation pays honor to the genocide victims in Potočari

FENA Press release

SREBRENICA, February 9 (FENA) - The World Muslim League delegation visited Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center on Sunday. They laid flowers at the memorial, said prayers and paid tribute to the innocent victims in the genocide.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Muhammad bin Abdul Karim bin Abdulaziz Al-Issa, who led the delegation, said in a statement to the press that it was essential that good relations exist between the various ethnicities and nations in the Balkans, as this ultimately leads to peace.

"This is what we stand for always, and also our faith, Islam is committed to making peace. This is what our faith preaches and we hope others will do the same. The condition of all mankind will be put in order only in this way, that is in mutual communication and mutual good relations," he said.

When asked about the denial of the Srebrenica genocide, he emphasized that history is the best witness and it speaks the best about what had happened in Srebrenica.

"Those who do not believe should take a look at the history and the facts and we are sorry that such things have happened here and in the rest of the world. We are not talking about individuals and their attitudes; we want to hear what history says about it and ultimately for it to be crucial.

We do not go into the disagreements, differences, but we look at what really happened and what the facts say and what history says. In addition to history, we look to the future and it is important to us. What remains after us is history and facts that matter.

We as Muslims always call for peace and for building a secure future in which everyone will live a dignified life. We draw lessons from the past, but we do not draw a line there but we move forward and look to the future. We will succeed if we only raise the flag of peace that we and our future generations will carry on," he added.

The World Muslim League delegation recently visited the Auschwitz concentration camp memorial, making a historic step in the inter-religious/inter-ethnic dialogue towards honoring the victims.
