BiH Ombudsman welcomes the new legislation in FBiH on maternity benefits

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 10 (FENA) -  The Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ljubinko Mitrović, Jasminka Džumhur and Nives Jukić find extremely important and support the adoption of the new Law on Fundamentals of Social Protection, Protection of Civilian Victims of War and Protection of Families with Children in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

If all that is planned gets implemented, all unemployed new mothers in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina would receive a monthly benefit of 60 percent of the average salary.

In addition, the adoption of a new Law would mean the same amount of child allowance for all children in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Ombudspersons also welcome all the activities of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of passing the Law on the Special Register of Persons Convicted of Criminal Offenses against Sexual Freedom and Morality against Children and Minors.

The Ombudsman Institution has advocated for years for the adoption of new legislation in its special reports and in the annual activity reports which are presented to the entity parliaments and the Assembly of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina and submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The issue of maternity benefits was discussed by the Ombudspersons within the framework of a Special Report on the status of protection of new mothers and maternity care in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

All other special reports, analyses and annual reports can be found on the website of the Ombudsman Institution: www.ombudsmen.gov.ba
