Brkić - Koç: BiH and Turkey will continue good cooperation

SARAJEVO, February 12 (FENA) – BiH Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josip Brkić, received today Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to BiH, Haldun Koç, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation between BiH and the Republic of Turkey related to NATO and European integration BiH.

They agreed that the two countries have very good bilateral relations and that they will continue with dialogue and good cooperation in the coming period.

In this regard, it was agreed to continue political consultations between the two foreign ministries at all levels, and announced that Brkić and his Turkish colleague would hold bilateral consultations in Sarajevo soon.

Brkić expressed gratitude to Turkey for the initiative to build a Sarajevo-Belgrade-Sarajevo road communication, as well as for assisting in the reconstruction of the BiH Embassy in Ankara, and thanked the Ambassador for his engagement in BiH.

He also noted that Turkey supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in Euro-Atlantic integration, both through bilateral cooperation and lobbying for BiH within NATO. He briefed on BiH's future steps with regard to NATO and stressed that BiH's Euro-Atlantic integration process has not stopped and is going in the right direction.

He also briefed the Ambassador on BiH's first foreign policy priority - European integration, and exchanged views on a new methodology for EC accession negotiations.

Brkić welcomed the EU-Western Balkans summit, scheduled for early May in Zagreb under the Croatian presidency of the EU Council, which will be a good opportunity to discuss expectations and open up new perspectives for EU enlargement.

Ambassador Koç stressed that BiH's progress on the Euro-Atlantic path, for which Turkey has strong support, is essential for the security and stability of the region, as demonstrated by the migrant crisis. He also noted that Turkey will continue to encourage its investors to invest in BiH, as economic stability contributes to overall stability and security, and security of the Western Balkans region is of great importance to Turkey, the BiH Foreign Ministry stated.
