Our Party MPs in FBiH Parliament demand Arapović to be sanctioned

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 13 (FENA) - Our Party's caucus in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has today filed a report with the House Ethics Committee against Adis Arapović, an SBB MP.

The reason for this is his public statement in which he described rape victims as dishonorable.

"Article 9 of the Code of Ethics clearly states that in their public speeches, MPs must take care not to jeopardize both their own dignity and the dignity of the House of Representatives, guided by the norms and standards of civilized conduct, and carefully choose the vocabulary they use on these occasions. We believe that MP Arapović grossly violated this code and we are seeking sanctions against him.

We would like to remind you that the Hague Tribunal for the first time in history on the basis of wartime events in BiH described rape in war as a crime against humanity. We urge MP Arapović to apologize publicly to all victims of war because these and similar statements are a continuation of the degradation and verbal abuse of women victims of the war, but also of all women of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MP Arapović, in his statement, declared women, victims of war crimes themselves, as guilty for those exact crimes.

We also urge that we, as Parliament, distance ourselves from his statements. Otherwise, we are accomplices. The least that the legislative power can do is public reprimand, which is prescribed by Article 18 of the Rules of Ethics.

We call on the Alliance for a Better Future (SBB) to distance itself from this attitude and to sanction this hate speech. To a responsible political party, such a statement would result with the end of a political career, as it basically degrades those we are actually here to represent,” it is said in a statement from Our Party's press office.
