SARAJEVO, February 17 (FENA) - Fourteen members of BiH police agencies today departed from the Sarajevo International Airport to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
Minister of Security of BiH Fahrudin Radončić said that BiH's participation in peacekeeping missions shows that we are aware of the importance of peace-building in the world, the establishment of democratic societies and the importance of fulfilling our obligations as a UN member.
“Since 2000, 337 police officers from BiH have participated in peace support operations, of whom 52 were women, taking part in peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, Cyprus, Congo, Liberia, East Timor and Haiti,” Radonćić said.
He wished the participants of the mission a successful mission and a lot of luck and success, convinced that, like their predecessors, they would show a high level of knowledge and expertise, as well as human and professional integrity.
A member of the Tuzla Canton MoI, Ivana Josipović Stjepić said she would strive to be the best ambassadors of BiH, as well as the UN, to help maintain peace in South Sudan and boost BiH's reputation in the world.
RS MoI member Dmitar Vračar said he expects them to help the people of South Sudan in building a better and safer country, in accordance with their competencies and experience.
Members of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, RS MoI, Sarajevo canton MoI, Tuzla Canton MoI, Zenica-Doboj Canton Mo, Una-Sana Canton MoI and Posavina Canton MoI have departed to a mission in South Sudan today.
Eleven male and three female police officers will stay for a period of one year in a mission in South Sudan.
