SARAJEVO, February 20 (FENA) - Vice-President of the RS Council of Peoples, Mihnet Okić announced today that he would demand the removal of an unconstitutional map from the Office of the President of the RS entity, Željka Cvijanović, which has on its display the Brčko District as an integral part of this entity.
Okić recalls that the Brčko District of BiH was declared in 2000 by a decision of the Arbitral Tribunal for the dispute over the inter-entity demarcation line, in accordance with Article 5 of Annex II of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
The status of the Brčko District is defined, based on the conducted arbitration, by an amendment to the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which states that the territory of the Brčko District is a condominium of both entities, which falls under the direct sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Under the Statute of the Brčko District of BiH, all the powers previously exercised by the entities and the three municipal authorities in the territory of the pre-war Brčko Municipality have been handed over to the Brčko District institutions, and the Brčko District cannot be considered as a municipality falling under the administrative structure of any entity, but as an administrative unit with status equal to the entities.
“I also emphasize that the entity of RS does not have a territorial integrity, as the map in the office of the president of the entity of the RS falsely tries to show, but it consists of two parts, which are separated precisely with 493 km2 of the Brčko District territory, which must be visible on every fact-based cartographic representation,” concluded Okić.
