Cikotić: Policy two against one does not benefit anyone in the long run

SARAJEVO, February 21 (FENA) - Former BiH minister of defense Selmo Cikotić believes that the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is particularly undermined and even threatened as it is being tried to get something with politics that has failed through combat or war.

Commenting on the current developments of political representatives from the BiH entity of Republika Srpska who are serving as state officials that they will not participate in any decision-making within both houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the BiH Presidency, Cikotić said in a statement for FENA that RS leaders are aware that they cannot get what they want, but they are trying to get it through a concession which they can impose.

“BiH with the experience it has and with the fact that it has survived far more serious challenges and risks, far more powerful than Dodik and Vučić - must nevertheless take care of responsibility for its own destiny and future by seeking functional solutions,” Cikotić stated.

But, he said, everything should be viewed in a broader context - the crisis in Montenegro, the upcoming elections in Serbia, relations between Kosovo and Serbia, the way that Serbian politics seeks to relate these events to the situation in BiH.

“It is in our interest that Serbs accept compromise as soon as possible and that they are ready to offer others what they are seeking. In this case, they are requesting something that they are not willing to give or help, and such a policy does not produce a lasting solution,” he pointed out.

He recalled the Latin proverb that 'leaders who care only about the interests of their peoples are leading their nation into destruction', stating that 'he would not like to see Serb leaders take care of the interests of Serbs in this way, because apart from the Serb people other nations are also suffering and I think they must have one policy of compromise'.

“Also, the security situation reflects the combination of the war policies of Serbia and Croatia against BiH, and that policy was defeated in the war, that policy was repeatedly defeated even after the war and I do not think that any combination of '2 against 1' will benefit those who are advocating such a policy in the long run,” he emphasized.

He expressed hope that the international community would also understand its role, and at the moment, the OHR has the greatest responsibility for the situation in BiH, concluded a member of the Presidency of the Party of Democratic Action and former defense minister of BiH Selmo Cikotić in a statement for FENA.
