BiH female leaders for greater political participation of women

FENA Press release

SARAJVO, February 24 (FENA) - More than 60 female leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered from February 21 to 23, at the first "Fempower" development leaders conference, aimed at developing potential of women's leadership.

These are women who have achieved success in the areas of business, political involvement, equality, sustainable development and the media.

UNDP Project Manager Lejla Ramić-Mesihović says that the project 'Women in Elections in BiH', through a combination of institutional support to partner institutions at the state and municipal level and an innovative approach to cooperation, networking, sharing information and knowledge, as well as solidarity, seeks to encourage women to engage in socio-political decision-making processes as much as possible.

She added that innovative approaches to the implementation of the two-year project will result in activities to create a women's development forum, as a platform for collaboration in a real and online environment.

The topic of interest during the conference was the political participation of women in BiH, as well as the creation of new opportunities for development of women-run businesses.

Participants mapped priorities, possible solutions and future steps in empowering women's leadership in BiH.

During the further implementation of the activities of the "Women in Elections in BiH" project, special attention will be paid to the analysis and creation of innovative social services that aim to provide an adequate solution to the lack of time faced by women who want to be socially engaged.

The conference is part of the project "Women in Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina", funded by Swedish Government, implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and UN Women BiH in partnership with the BiH Central Election Commission, Agency for Gender Equality, FBiH Gender Center, the Gender Center of the RS Government and the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.
