BIHAĆ, February 24 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fahrudin Radončić at today’s meeting with representatives of the Una.-Sana Canton Government (USC) promised maximum support when it comes to the situation with migrants and refugees, emphasizing that the protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens are a priority.

He announced certain legislative changes, more responsible behavior of the competent ministries and maximum engagement of all police agencies in the country.

"We must know what our priorities are and these are the protection of the state and its citizens, and then care for migrants. The obligation is to ensure the safety of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in this case specifically in the Una-Sana Canton. It is unacceptable for migrants to commit more than 1,000 criminal acts here, and for this to be literally ignored by the police structures. That is why I encouraged the representatives of the Cantonal Government to protect their citizens and economic interests," said Minister Radončić.

He also stressed that the BiH Ministry of Security will now be a partner, which will earn the maximum trust of the citizens of Bihać and other USC cities.

"I have asked the leadership of this canton to provide a realistic assessment of accommodation options and capacities without any pressure. We will put things differently within the BiH institutions, but also in dialogue with representatives of the European Union and international organizations. We cannot and should not turn this canton into a lot for migrants who do not even want to stay here.

We will have to share responsibility and the burden, and our human rights and refugee ministries must finally take responsibility for the humanitarian aspect of the crisis," Radončić added.

Cantonal Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić spoke with optimism about the conclusions of the meeting, reiterating that migrants must be displaced from urban areas.

"I am pleased that we have agreed that we must be as professional and humane as possible, but also because of the common position on the closing of the Bira and Miral centers. Based on today's meeting, as well as the first concrete moves by Minister Radončić, we can conclude that the Una-Sana Canton will no longer be left on its own in this migration crisis," Prime Minister Ružnić said.

Security Minister Fahrudin Radončić will also meet today with Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić to discuss the problems the city faces, as it is currently home to the largest number of migrants and refugees staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
