BANJA LUKA, February 24 (FENA) - Presidents of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) and the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) Mirko Šarović and Branislav Borenović think the opposition should endorse one candidate for mayor of Banja Luka, while in Bijeljina the SDS will offer its candidate that will be no SNSD candidate, without any compromise.
Asked whether the SDS would support Draško Stanivuković’s (PDP) candidacy for Mayor of Banja Luka, Šarović said he would support the candidate with the highest chance of winning.
He asserts that it would be useful for Milan Radović to join the SDS after he left the DNS, but he did not confirm that it would happen.
When it comes to Bijeljina, Šarović said that the SDS in that city must have a candidate, who, he said, would be exclusively loyal to that political party not to anyone else.
The SNSD’s policies have almost nothing in common with the SDS. If the SNSD would accept the policies of the SDS and say that they did wrong in Bijeljina and accept, then we could talk. This is about a concept, not an individual,” said Šarović, reiterating that there will be no compromise with the SNSD.
Šarović said he believed there the SDS and the PDP are nearing a moment when they will sign a coalition agreement.
“We believe that this is the last successful year of the current government, not only at the local but also the level of the RS. We believe that the regime in the RS is nearing its end. This is the beginning of a major turning point in the RS and the whole of BiH,” Šarović said.
Borenović said that this meeting also shows the readiness of the opposition to go to the elections together.
The PDP president added that the goal is for the opposition to have one candidate in the majority of municipalities and cities in the RS in the October elections.
