SARAJEVO, February 26 (FENA) - Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina Khaldoun Sinno says that promoting social inclusion reduces discrimination and that the EU helps BiH find solutions to social inclusion problems.

He participated in one-day seminar on Roma inclusion in BiH, organized today in Sarajevo by the Office of the European Union in BiH in cooperation with the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees.

At today's meeting, Sinno added, they want to provide realistic proposals for social inclusion of Roma people in BiH society and how to fight discrimination.

He noted that over the past ten years, they have allocated about seven million euros to address social inclusion issues, within which they have built around 300 housing units.

Assistant Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH Saliha Djuderija pointed out that the seminar is an opportunity to review progress made in implementing the agreed operational conclusions from the Roma Inclusion Seminar held in January 2018, and to discuss concrete measures aimed at improving the social inclusion of Roma in BiH.

“The discussion will focus on specific thematic areas: registration in civil registers, fight against discrimination, gender equality, housing, education, employment, social issues and health care of Roma in BiH,” she said.

She stressed the importance of holding seminars since last year BiH signed the Declaration on Roma Integration, which was accepted by all the countries of the Western Balkans.

Advisor on Roma policy at the Directorate-General for European Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Marta Garcia Fidalgo, said such seminars take place every two years, not only in BiH, but in all enlargement countries, as this is one of the key enlargement priorities.

“Some of the priorities have already been realized and some are not. But everyone learned lessons from the unfulfilled results. All levels of government must cooperate in all sectors such as education and social services in order to improve the situation,” she said.

Chairman of the Committee on Roma at the BiH Council of Ministers, Dervo Sejdić, thanked the line ministry and the EU Delegation to BiH for working for ten years on the implementation of Roma social inclusion policies in BiH.

He expressed his expectations that today's seminar will give results and instructions as to how to behave and what to do in the next two years, and what they could accomplish within BiH's political reality.

Representatives of local authorities and non-governmental and international organizations will also participate in the seminar.
