SARAJEVO, March 1 (FENA) - Public enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) fully realized investments in mines within the EPBiH Concern in the amount of KM 307,354,868.48 in the period from 2010 to 2019.
“It is important to note that any investment in the procurement / modernization of existing equipment, especially in underground exploitation, also brings improvements in protection at work. In the last period since the formation of the Concern, we have invested in protective equipment and systems, but at the same time, by investing in new modern equipment and production systems, preconditions have been created for safer work of employees in the mining industry, stated Elektroprivreda BiH for FENA.
Investments made since the formation of the EPBiH Concern until today (2010-2019), as they added, have ensured the continuity of production of subsidiaries - mines with a certain increase in production (from 4.9 million tones in 2010 to 5, 3 million tons in 2018), which provided the quantities of coal needed for the operation of thermal power plants within the Concern.
However, the investments made did not ensure economically viable operations of the subsidiaries-mines. The reason for this is the fact that the investments did not accompany the comprehensive restructuring of the mines in terms of optimization of production capacities, technological and organizational restructuring and optimization of the workforce, the EPBiH emphasized.
During this period, investments were made in brown coal mine "Zenica" in the amount of 66.64 million KM, brown coal mine "Kakanj" 85.08 million KM, mine "Kreka" 68.14 million KM, brown coal mine "Đurđevik" 33.89 million KM, brown coal mine "Breza" 36,46 million KM, brown coal mine "Bila" 10,91 million KM, and coal mine "Gračanica" 6,24 million KM.
