FBiH opens a new oil terminal in Živinice starting the renewal of oil reserves

ŽIVINICE, March 4 (FENA) - The Terminals of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today opened a newly built terminal for liquid petroleum products in Živinice, marking the beginning of the renewal of obligatory reserves of oil and petroleum products.

Chairman of the Management Board of the Federation of BiH Terminals Operator Sarajevo, Hermedin Zornić told reporters that this was an important step for the Terminals and the entire Federation of BiH.

He stated that the first phase of the project has been completed in Živinice. The terminal now has a volume of six million liters and should be fully completed by the end of the year, when it will be able to store about 46 million liters.

He recalled that the construction of terminals in Blažuj and Bihać is planned to begin in late August or early September this year.

“We hope that by 2023, in accordance with the Directive of the European Union, we will fulfill what is expected of us, to have the terminals and reserves,” said Zornić.

He stressed that this was the beginning of the process of renewal of oil and petroleum products reserves in the FBiH.

“By adopting the Law on Petroleum Products and signing the EU Directive, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina must have obligatory petroleum products reserves,” Zornić emphasized.

The FBiH Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Nermin Džindić said that the opening of the terminal was a significant event for the Federation of BiH and the entire BiH industry.

“Today, we have come a step closer to meeting the goal that the Federation of BiH has 90-day of its own oil reserves. I request the Management Board and the Supervisory Board to meet at the same time next year at the Blažuj terminal and open the first phase, and the year after that, we will do it in Bihać,” said Džindić.

After that, he said, the first phase in Mostar should be initiated.

“With these four terminals we will meet all the conditions condition,” said Džindić.

He stressed that it was of great importance for the Federation of BiH to have its oil reserves in order to sustain the industry in the event of market disruption.

The Federation of BiH has eight terminals, four of which are continental, three military and one maritime terminal. The total volume is 200 million liters.
