SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - As part of marking March 8, International Women's Day in Sarajevo, a March was organized today, where participants once again reminded of the need to achieve equality and strengthen the status of women in BiH society, but also globally.

The peace march, organized by the CURE Foundation under the slogan "A Rapist in Your Path" (Spanish: Un violador en tu camino), began with a gathering outside the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by an activist march along Marshal Tito Street to commemorate the murdered children of the besieged Sarajevo in the war in 1992-1995, where a special performance took place.

As FENA learns from the CURE Foundation activist Vildana Đekman, this is an event that has become traditional to draw attention to the need to create an institutional framework and policies to eliminate discrimination and segregation against women.

"We talk about it on a daily basis, and from this gathering, we symbolically send out a message that the institutions must listen to women living in BiH," said Đekman.

She added that women also work and pay taxes and that they should be treated equally in all segments of society.

The performance, titled "Un violador en tu camino"(A Rapist in Your Path), was organized by students from the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (ERMA) and the CURE Foundation, and was joined by other women's rights advocates who wanted to draw attention of the public to the violence and problems that women in Bosnia and Herzegovina face.

It is a performance that originated in Chile by the feminist collective Las Tesis entitled "Un violador en tu camino". It was performed for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls on 25 November 2019.

The performance has been staged at numerous world squares - from Santiago to Oslo, Mapuche Territory to Beirut, London and Paris, and has become a global, trans-feminist anthem condemning all forms of violence and abuse (including the state, the courts and the media).

The title of the performance 'Un violador en tu camino' is a reference to the slogan Un amigo en tu camino (lit. A Friend Along Your Path) used by Carabineros de Chile in the 1990s.
