SARAJEVO, March 10 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina will become the seat of an important security initiative in a decision made by the European Commission to set up a Secretariat for Integrative Internal Security Governance (IISG) from April in Sarajevo.
Deputy Director-General of the European Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations Department Maciej Popowski supported the initiative of the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fahrudin Radončić, agreeing on the benefits of having an IISG Secretariat in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In doing so, the EC recognized the prominent role of the new leadership of the BiH Ministry of Security in enhancing regional security cooperation.
Popowski stressed the commitment of the European Commission to equip Western Balkan countries to tackle all security challenges, and believes that IISG is a key tool for achieving this common goal.
IISG is a new approach to internal security management, introduced with the support of the EU in the Western Balkans region, with the primary objective of building capacity in the security sector and fostering reform processes in the countries of the region, the BiH Ministry of Security said.
