OTTAWA/SARAJEVO, March 10 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić met with Canada’s Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne in Ottawa today.
The interlocutors welcomed today's meeting and its importance, as this is the first time that a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has met with Canada's top officials. They discussed the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada, as well as the challenges facing the Western Balkan countries.
The foreign minister expressed Canada's support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to NATO and the EU. Opinions were exchanged on the current migrant crisis affecting the European Union and Turkey, and how this could affect Bosnia and Herzegovina and countries in the region that do not have the capacity to respond to these challenges.
Canada's interest in supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina in the form of reforms, new investments and projects has been expressed. They also discussed the need to sign the Agreement on Promotion and Protection of Foreign Investments as a first step towards significant investments by the Government of Canada in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was concluded that the rule of law and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina were of great importance for this cooperation, but it is necessary to first implement a judicial reform that would make Bosnia and Herzegovina a stable country for new investment and cooperation, the BiH Presidency said.
