Komšić meets with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa

SARAJEVO, March 11 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa and discussed bilateral and friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada, focusing on enhancing that cooperation in the areas of energy, economy and education.

Particular emphasis was placed on the potential gasification project as well as the supply of liquid natural gas to BiH.

The interlocutors agreed that the Agreement on Pension and Social Insurance should be finalized as it is of great importance for the BiH Diaspora.

Trudeau and Komšić assessed this meeting as very important, considering that this is the first time that the representatives of the two countries are meeting at the highest level.

Chairman Komšić thanked Canada for the support it has provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens so far, as well as for supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina's integration processes, on its path to membership in Euro-Atlantic integration.

Komšić also thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for the humane reception of BiH citizens in Canada, estimated at around one hundred thousand of them living in this country.

The two also discussed a strategy that would enhance economic and tourism potential of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose implementation would play an active role for the BiH diaspora living in Canada.

The importance of reopening the Honorary Consulate in BiH was emphasized, which would greatly facilitate and enhance the bilateral cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada.

The topic of discussion was also the need to sign agreements on the promotion and protection of foreign investment as a first step towards significant investments by the Government of Canada in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Komšić reaffirmed Bosnia and Herzegovina's official support for Canada as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, for which Prime Minister Trudeau thanked the Presidency Chairman Komšić and Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed the importance of this significant support, the BiH Presidency stated.
