Formation of tent settlement on Lipa and relocation of migrants

BIHAĆ, March 17 (FENA) - A meeting of the Crisis Staff for monitoring and prevention of coronavirus in the Una-Sana Canton (USC) announced today formation of a tent settlement on the Lipa site between Bihać and Bosanski Petrovac, and relocation of migrants currently residing on the streets of Bihać and in abandoned buildings.

“It is pointless to talk about restricting movement of citizens of Bihać and the Una-Sana Canton because of the threat of the spread of coronavirus without doing anything with 2.000 migrants living on the streets and in abandoned facilities. We have already visited the site of Lipa and started arranging the location, since the movement of migrants is the most risky factor in a possible epidemic here,” said Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić.

He added that this particular location is closer to the city, with the possibility of connecting water and electricity.

“This site should be more donor-friendly and I have been in touch with all the people who should help us this morning. The BiH Minister of Security, the FBiH Prime Minister, as well as the representatives of the European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) offered to help. We need their support, because these people must be provided with decent living conditions,’ said Fazlić.

Preparations for setting up a tent settlement on the Lipa site have been confirmed by USC Interior Minister Nermin Kljajić.

“We have confirmation that a tent settlement on Lipa will be set up very soon, that is, ensuring the necessary living conditions at that location. As soon as these minimum conditions are created, the Ministry of Interior will organize relocation of all migrants living in the streets and abandoned facilities in Bihać. We can do all this very quickly,” said USC Interior Minister Kljajić.
