To intervene in Croatia and Brussels in order to speed up goods transport to EU

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 24 (FENA) - The FBiH Association of Employers (UPFBiH) calls for urgent intervention by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Council of Ministers of BiH, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all crisis staffs to appeal to the competent authorities of the Republic of Croatia and European countries with the plea to increase the number of border crossings towards this country for goods transport, as well as to speed up the crossing of borders, to determine the routes of the passage of goods and break places for rest and tanking of fuel.

"Over the past two days, the UPFBiH has received dozens of complaints from our transport members, as well as others, about problems they have at border crossings in Croatia which their government has designated for goods transport. They complain because of long wait times at border crossings at Bosanska Gradiška and Bosanski Šamac. According to the information we have, the problem arose when Croatia introduced the so-called convoys," said UPFBiH in a press release.

At the border with Croatia, truck drivers wait more than three days, and when they enter the territory of Croatia, they again wait for the formation of convoys for transit through Croatia. They have to be the trucks the entire time and there are no basic working conditions. Another problem is that there are no toilets. According to the drivers, they were keeping them in unhygienic conditions. They also have a strict ban on leaving vehicles and were punished for any attempt to leave the vehicle.

Because of all this, the Association appeals to competent authorities in BiH to resolve these issues.
