TRAVNIK, April 2 (FENA) - Five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Vitez, and they are connected to the family of a first infected man in the city, Director of the Public Health Institute of the Central Bosnia Canton, Sead Karakaš, confirmed to reporters.
He stressed that 12 people are confirmed to be infected with coronavirus in that canton and two clusters are currently active.
As he said, the infected persons are in home isolation and they have no symptoms, therefore there is no need for their hospitalization.
“In Vitez, we have a cluster from Tuzla, which now has five positive cases, and they are all members of the household of an infected man. The second cluster is the one in Gornji Vakuf / Uskoplje, where, along with the wife of a recently deceased man who was infected, their neighbor and family’s friend are positive for coronavirus,” he stressed.
Karakaš stressed that there is an intense search for people who have been in contact with infected persons and warned that the process is being slowed down by the fact that people are exposed to stigma and discrimination.
Speaking about the first infected man in this Canton, who participated at the event in Konjic on March 11, Karakaš said that many people had been tested and that there were no new infections.
Asked by the journalists whether the conditions for Covid-19 testing would be provided at the Central Bosnia Canton, given that samples are currently being sent to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Karakaš replied that an authorized laboratory, adequate equipment and trained personnel should be provided for testing staff, so it's hard to expect it to be done soon.
