Tegeltija with IMF representatives on situation in BiH caused by coronavirus

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 3 (FENA) - BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Zoran Tegeltija spoke today via video link with Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission to BiH Martin Petri and BiH International Monetary Fund Resident Representative Andrew Jewell about the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina caused by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Chairman Tegeltija briefed the Head of the IMF mission to BiH, Petri, on the state of our country regarding the health situation and the economic consequences of the pandemic, as well as on the options for the response of the authorities in BiH to protect the health and lives of citizens, recovering the economy as soon as possible and to return jobs that were affected due to pandemic, the BiH Council of Ministers said.

The IMF representatives informed the Chairman of the Council of Ministers that there was a certain increase in funds approved to BiH through the quick financing instrument from 50 percent to 100 percent of the quota paid, i.e. from 165 million euros to 330 million euros, and emphasized that the Board of Directors would declare on it on Monday, April 6 this year.

On this occasion, it was emphasized that it is extremely important for the entities to agree on the allocation of funds, as otherwise the deadline for the decision of the IMF Board of Directors on this instrument would be delayed.

The statement said that IMF representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that entity governments did not consult or inform the IMF, as well as other international financial institutions, when designing measures to support the economy, although they were expected to significantly support the financing of the defined measures.

Chairman Tegeltija thanked the IMF representatives for their prompt response to BiH's request for emergency funding, and expressed the expectation that the entities would agree on the allocation of approved funds, so that deadlines would be respected and that the funds would be made available to the entities and the Brčko District as soon as possible, announced the Council of Ministers of BiH.
