FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 3 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović met today with Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, General Manager of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS), and visited an isolation ward at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, intended for the eventual care of patients infected with coronavirus.

They also visited Zetra, which is a location for the possible isolation ward.

Chairman Džaferović expressed his satisfaction with the way the isolation unit at the Faculty of Civil Engineering was completed and equipped in a short period of time.

“As a society and a state, we reacted on time. We already have detrimental consequences and will probably have them in the future. However, compared to others, and thanks to our healthcare professionals above all, I think we will overcome this crisis as best we can. I would like to thank the KCUS staff led by Dr. Izetbegović and I emphasize that they will always have my support and assistance,” Džaferović said.

Dr. Izetbegović emphasized that KCUS, as the largest healthcare institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, provided isolation wards for coronavirus patients at the Podhrastovi Pulmonary Clinic and at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

“KCUS is fully prepared and we have formed medical teams. On January 31, we organized the crisis staff at the Clinical Center and made a state of emergency in some way. We prepared an isolation ward at Podhrastovi Clinic, where we provided 22 beds plus 25 intensive care beds. We also secured a number of ventilators there. We also put a new CT machine at the Clinic. There is possibility at the entire clinic for 100 intensive care beds. We also have teams of doctors and staff supplying the Clinic as needed. Currently, six patients are accommodated in the Podhrastovi isolation ward and none is on a ventilator. In this isolation ward at the Faculty of Civil Engineering we have made excellent conditions for both staff and patients. We have provided through the FBiH Civil Protection 200 beds, and if necessary we can provide more. I sincerely hope that we will not need this much capacity,” said Dr. Izetbegović.

The General Manager of KCUS said that the employees of this center make great efforts to provide the best health care to all those who need it.
