SARAJEVO, April 7 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Staša Košarac, spoke today with Minister of the Environment and Energy of the Republic of Croatia, Tomislav Ćorić, about Croatia’s intention to build a radioactive and nuclear waste landfill at Trgovska gora site, close to the border with BiH.
Košarac said he is aware of a recent decision that the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Croatia has given the location of the former military warehouse Čerkezovac in the municipality of Dvor to the Fund for financing the decommissioning and disposal of radioactive waste from the Krško nuclear power plant.
Košarac emphasized the position of the competent institutions at all levels of government in BiH that Croatia's intention to dispose of radioactive waste in the immediate vicinity to the border is completely unacceptable, and expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Croatia does not abandon its former military warehouse Čerkezovac as the preferred location for the disputed landfill.
Should Croatia insist on this location, Košarac said that BiH would initiate an international arbitration dispute but he hopes that the issue would be resolved through diplomatic channels.
After the telephone meeting with Ćorić, Košarac scheduled an emergency video conference today with entity ministers for environment Srebrenka Golić and Edita Djapo, as well as deputies of the Green Club parliamentary group - Saša Magazinović and Jasmin Emrić and Mayor of Novi Grad Miroslav Drljača, the Bih Ministry for Foreign Trade and Economic Relations stated.
